Parent Tips
Small daily habits that build big communication — plus free practice downloads to use at home.
Talk through your day
Narrate what you're doing — “I'm peeling the carrots, one, two!” — to flood your child with useful words in context. Self-talk beats screen time for language growth.
Offer choices, not yes/no
“Apple or banana?” forces a word; “Want fruit?” only needs a nod. Choices build vocabulary and confidence at every meal and outing.
Wait five seconds
After asking a question, silently count to five. Children who stutter or process slowly need that space — jumping in teaches them that talking is a race.
Expand, don't correct
Child: “dog run!” You: “Yes! The big dog is running fast!” Expansions model grammar without the sting of correction.
Read the same book twice
Repetition is how words stick. The second read, pause before favourite words and let your child fill them in — that's language practice disguised as fun.
Protect the voice
Cheering is great; screaming all afternoon isn't. Teach loud-but-easy cheering, keep water handy and rest voices after colds to prevent lasting hoarseness.
